A complete pollution-prevention solution for bilge water, the PetroLiminator is a U.S. Coast Guard (USCG) and International Maritime Organization (IMO) approved oily water separator (OWS) that easily handles phase-separated oil, emulsified oil and other contaminants. Properly used, the system takes suction directly from the ship's bilge or oily water collection tank and reduces the total petroleum hydrocarbons to less than 5 parts per million. Emulsified oil is readily processed by the system, whether caused by detergents and/or the ship's mechanical systems.
Unlike conventional oil water separators, the PetroLiminator actually destroys oil and grease using naturally occurring bacteria. The PetroLiminator is an automated bio-mechanical system which requires low maintenance and has been employed on a variety of ship platforms (i.e., ferries, ore carriers, tankers, oil exploration vessels, military vessels, etc.) since 2000. Compelling reasons that more and more ship owners are switching to this technology include: low operating costs, ease of use, green technology, little or no HAZMAT, industry validation and excellent reliability, to mention a few.
The system is designed to work 24 hours a day, 7 days a week but can accommodate other schedules or instances when the bilge water has been entirely processed. Approved to process 3.8 gallons per minute, the PL630M system, for example, can easily process up to 20 cubic meters (5400 gallons) per day.
